Cabernet Sauvignon

A traditional Bordeaux grape variety that can now be found in just about every grape growing country in the world. Cabernet Sauvigon is thought to be a relatively young variety and may have arisen due to a chance crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in the 1600s. It is popular due to the ease in which it can be grown and made into acceptable wine. Cab Sauv generally produces wines with cassis, mint or eucalyptus flavours with wine from hotter climates having balck cherry and occasionally 'jammy' notes.
