Barbeito 30 Year Old O Engenheiro Tinta Negra Sweet
The Barbeito winery is located on the small volcanic island of Madeira, almost 1,000 km southwest of Lisbon and surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, offering a suitable climate for viticulture, which became the main economic source among the 15th and 16th centuries. It is then that the particular process of making these wines is discovered thanks to transatlantic trade exchanges. The merchants stocked up on wine before leaving for the Indies. This was fortified with alcohol to be able to withstand long voyages and was stored in the holds of ships, subjecting it to humidity and high temperatures. These conditions accelerated the aging process resulting in very complex and special wines.
